Photography courses for teens are aimed at taking students into a new world of artistic photography – drop auto and move into full manual mode. Learn to capture images impossible to create in any other way.
Our photography workshops for teens cover a variety of topics and themes, and give you a grounding in the fundamentals of photography; you even go home with a photography tuition manual to keep, and we’ll support you as you build your skills.
What you learn
You don’t need any specialist knowledge or equipment for our photography courses (you can hire a DSLR from us) and we’ll work with you to develop your individual skill goals – whether you’re a budding photojournalist, creative artist, or social media influencer.
Our teen photography workshops cover:
- Learning to use a DSLR camera and its functions
- Using filters, working in natural and artificial light
- Taking weekly photos inspired by a theme (wildlife, portraits, nature)
- Learning to recognise quality photography
- Guidance on entering competitions
Course cost and Dates
Details
The course will be run in our studio. It comprises of 3 monthly workshops, and weekly photographic assignments.
For the first two workshops, tutor will take the students on a photo walk teaching the students how to use the exposure settings on their cameras to take great photographs. Each session is structured to support the students with their weekly photo skills assignments (provided to the students by the tutor), and the tutor will give students ideas on what to photograph and how to use their camera settings creatively.
Students will finish each session confidently understanding how to use the aperture, shutter speed and iso along with compositional skills to take inspiring photographs.
Instructions
- Student maximum numbers – 15 *Please note the weather dependent outdoor classes of the course will be run as a live workshop via zoom if the weather is poor on the day.
- Please remember to bring waterproof clothing and a rucksack for any personal possessions for outdoors weather dependent classes.
- The first workshop meets at our studio
- The second workshop meets at Karura Forest.
- The third workshop meets via zoom, link to be supplied. Students will spend the session viewing the images taken over the term and work together on any outstanding assignments.
Cost
Photography Course with own camera- Kes. 25,000 for 3 months and 3 holiday workshops. There will be weekly photographic assignment evaluated online and on weekend classes at our studio.
The Course 1st workshop will be at our studio, 2nd workshop at Karura Forest or any other chosen park and 3rd workshop on Zoom

Private photography tuition for teens
For teens who’d like to go into more detail and really build their skills, we also offer private one-to-one photography tuition. You’ll have the freedom to specialise in whatever topics and skills you want, and we’ll work with you to build your confidence as a photographer.
